“As a human being you have no choice about the fact that you need a philosophy. You only choice is whether you define your philosophy be a conscious rational disciplined process of thought and scrupulously logical deliberation or let your subconscious accumulate a junk heap of unwarranted conclusions, false generalizations, undefined contradictions, undigested slogans, unidentified wishes, doubts and fears thrown together by chance, but integrated by your subconscious into a kind of “mongrel philosophy” infused into a single solid weight –self-doubt—like a ball and chain in the place where you mind’s wings should have grown.
I just love this quote on philosophy. One of the reasons that it appeals to me so much is that it really sums up what I love to help people do. Of course, it is even better when horses are incorporated.
Many of the core beliefs we have about ourselves were formulated when we were very young, and perceptions or opinions of others around us. They may or may not have been accurate at the time, and they may or may not be accurate in the present. Unless we stop and examine them, however, we may keep operating in ways that limit us. For our core beliefs determine our choices and directions in life. Throwing out the old, ill-fitting beliefs can open up tremendous opportunities in our lives, and of course, our riding.
A new belief begins with a new thought. Having the courage to allow ourselves to think differently can have tremendous results!! With a little practice and perseverance…….
